Meet Our Speakers at 16TH Ordinary Session of AUB General Assembly in Abidjan, Cote D’Ivoire

Emmanuel Juma is one of Kenya’s most seasoned and respected journalists, with a career spanning over 25 years in the media industry. His journey began at the Kenya News Agency, where his passion for storytelling and a keen interest in under reported rural communities earned him recognition during his early posting in West Pokot. A graduate of the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication, Juma quickly distinguished himself as an outgoing and insightful young journalist.

His talent and journalistic zeal led him to the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC), where he worked for two years before joining the newly launched Citizen TV. He later moved to KTN, where his signature voice and satirical political feature Newshot gained national acclaim. Rising through the ranks, Juma became Head of News at KTN.

In 2005, Juma took on the role of Head of News at NTV. There, he continued to sharpen his satirical edge through Bull's Eye, a re-branded version of his earlier political feature. His editorial leadership and creative storytelling saw him rise to the position of Managing Editor, a role he held for nearly a decade.

After a brief stint away from mainstream media, Juma joined the Kenya Red Cross, where he played a foundational role in launching Switch TV. He also served as Head of Content at the station. In 2019, he returned to NTV as Managing Editor, before transitioning at the end of 2020 into media consulting, training, and mentoring.

Juma has contributed significantly to media regulation and governance. In 2021, he chaired a Media Council of Kenya task force examining the influence of betting by media houses, and later led the selection panel for appointing the Media Council’s chairperson and council members.
