Chad Communication Ministry Delegation Visits AUB Headquarters, August 13 2026, Seeks Stronger Media Cooperation

A delegation from the Ministry of Communication of the Republic of Chad, led by the Secretary General of the Ministry, Ali Mahamat Nour, has visited the Headquarters of the African Union of Broadcasting (AUB) in Dakar, Senegal, on Thursday 13 August, 2026 to gain deeper insight into the operations of the continental broadcasting organisation and explore new avenues for strengthening cooperation.

The visit provided an opportunity for the Chadian delegation and the AUB management to discuss areas of mutual interest, particularly media development, professional capacity building, content exchange and the promotion of African narratives on the global stage.

Speaking during the visit, Ali Mahamat Nour said the delegation was interested in gaining a better understanding of the AUB's mandate, operations and programmes, noting the organisation's strategic role in advancing broadcasting and media development across Africa.

The Secretary General expressed Chad's interest in deepening cooperation with the AUB through the country's national broadcaster, the Office National des Médias Audiovisuels (ONAMA), which is already a member of the continental broadcasting organisation.

He said stronger institutional collaboration between Chad, ONAMA and the AUB would create opportunities for knowledge sharing, professional development, content exchange and other initiatives capable of strengthening the country's media sector.

The Chadian delegation also underscored the importance of African media organisations working together to promote the African image and tell the African story from an African perspective.

Responding, the Director General of the AUB, Grégoire Ndjaka, commended the Chadian Ministry of Communication for its support in hosting the AUB-UNESCO media capacity development workshop in N'Djamena.

He described the workshop as a success, noting that the collaboration demonstrated the value of partnerships between the AUB, UNESCO and African national media institutions in strengthening professional capacity and improving the quality of journalism on critical development issues.

The AUB Director General explained that the AUB, as a pan-African organisation, is committed to promoting African voices and strengthening the continent's media ecosystem so that it can remain globally competitive, locally relevant and impactful.

He said the organisation's mandate extends beyond broadcasting cooperation to creating platforms and opportunities through which African media institutions can share content, exchange expertise and collectively project the continent's narratives.

Ndjaka encouraged Chad to increase its engagement with the AUBVision Platform, hosted by the AUB Content Exchange Center in Algiers, Algeria.

The AUBVision Platform, he noted, provides an important avenue for African broadcasters to exchange content and showcase the continent's stories, perspectives and achievements.

The Director General also briefed the Chadian delegation on progress being made on the AUB Training Centre in Diamniadio, Senegal, describing the project as a major investment in the future of media capacity development in Africa.

He explained that the centre is being developed as an integrated facility comprising a training complex, the AUB Headquarters building and a hotel, designed to provide an all-inclusive and serene environment for professional training and media development.

The discussions concluded with a shared commitment to further explore practical areas of cooperation between the AUB and Chad, particularly through ONAMA, while strengthening the role of African broadcasters in shaping and disseminating authentic African narratives.

The visit further underscored the importance of continental media cooperation in building stronger African media institutions, developing professional capacity and ensuring that Africa increasingly tells its own story to the world.
