AUB Provides Pan-African Media Coverage at Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (GP2025) in Geneva

In a powerful show of regional media collaboration, the African Union of Broadcasting (AUB) deployed a team of seasoned journalists from across the continent to Geneva, Switzerland, for the 8th Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (GP2025), which took place from 2 to 6 June 2025.

Convened by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), the summit, themed “Every Day Counts: Act for Resilience Today,” sounded a timely call to accelerate global efforts toward the Sendai Framework as the world moved closer to the 2030 target date.

With just five years remaining to meet the Framework’s goals, GP2025 brought together global leaders, disaster risk experts, and frontline voices to assess progress, identify gaps, and push for urgent, collective action to strengthen resilience. For Africa, the stakes were high—and so was the opportunity to shape the global conversation.

To ensure the continent’s voice was heard loud and clear, the AUB assembled a diverse media delegation that included journalists from Nigeria, Cameroon, Algeria, Guinea Conakry, Côte d’Ivoire, Kenya, and Mauritius, alongside staff from the AUB Secretariat.

These journalists not only covered the summit but also delivered rich, pan-African perspectives on the disaster risks that continue to impact the continent—from floods and droughts to disease outbreaks and infrastructure collapse.

The AUB team worked in close collaboration with colleagues from the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union and the Caribbean Broadcasting Union, under the global umbrella of the World Broadcasting Unions (WBU), to deliver coordinated, syndicated coverage of the summit’s most critical discussions.

In Geneva, the AUB didn’t just report the news—it helped shape the narrative for a more resilient, better-prepared Africa.
