Arab States Broadcasting Union (ASBU) Conference 2025

The ASBU conference in Iraq began today with a visit to the Baghdad National Museum and its treasures.
The Baghdad National Museum, located in Iraq, is one of the most important archaeological museums in the world. It houses priceless treasures from the earliest human civilizations, particularly those of Mesopotamia, the cradle of writing and the first city-states.

Founded in 1926, this museum houses more than 170,000 pieces tracing the history of the Sumerian, Babylonian, Assyrian, and Akkadian civilizations.

Among the masterpieces on display are cuneiform tablets, ancient statues, royal jewelry, as well as religious and utilitarian objects dating back thousands of years. The museum is famous for its remains from major sites such as Ur, Nineveh, Nimrud, and Babylon. Among the exhibits are the Code of Hammurabi, impressive Assyrian reliefs, and artifacts related to King Sargon of Akkad.

These are all treasures that the ASBU conference participants in Baghdad discovered at the start of the conference on climate change.

A pure delight for history buffs, who found themselves transported back nearly 3,500 years BC. This moment was all the more precious given that the museum suffered significant looting during recent conflicts, but a large part of its collection was recovered thanks to international efforts.

Today, the museum symbolizes the richness of Iraqi heritage and the resilience of a thousand-year-old memory in the face of adversity.
