News Exchange Coordinators from Africa, Asia and Europe met in Algiers from March 5 to 9, 2023

The week-long event enabled News and Technical coordinators to dwell on the state of cooperation between broadcasters and the respect of content sharing standards within their respective organizations.

Can mainstream media (radios & TVs) ignore contents (Texts, photos & videos) generated by social networks?

What precautions should be taken when such contents reach broadcasters?

How to address issues related to the intellectual property of contents shared by browsers via Facebook, https://www.facebook.com/African-Union-of-Broadcasting-1087484021294970 Tiktok, Instagram, Telegram, Youtube, Twitter, Dailymotion?

These are among other concerns on the agenda of the meeting of New Media Coordinators which ended on Thursday, March 09, 2023, at the Marriott Hotel in Algiers.

The gathering was part of the Annual Global Meeting of Sports, News and Programmes Coordinators organized by the Arab States Broadcasting Union (ASBU).

Chaired by the Algerian Minister of Communication, Mr. Mohamed Bouslimani, the event kicked-off on Sunday March 5, 2023.

The various workshops allowed participants to discuss problems relating to the exchange of news and programs between different member countries of ASBU some of which are located in Africa and the Middle East.

The Technical coordinators, for their part, discussed technological advances while presenting the different possibilities offered by the Internet and the satellite with regard to the diligence in the sharing of information on Platforms of content exchange.

The obstacles to content exchange and the difficulties encountered by Focal points and other Regional coordinators in the field, were raised (difficult access to the Internet, video quality, international sound, access to information sources, accuracy, fake news etc.).

Sister Unions, notably the African Union of Broadcasting (AUB) and the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) also shared their experiences with their ASBU peers.
