Afcon 2019: the AUB sets up a Monitoring Unit
This component of the Union will encompass the informational, societal, commercial, technological and legal aspects of the Africa Cup of Nations rebroadcast process.
No detail should escape the African Union of Broadcasting regarding the management of the rebroadcast process of matches played within the framework of the 32nd edition of the Africa Cup of Nations to open next Friday 21st, 2019.
Since April 2019 when AUB acquired the rights of the Afcon 2019, 2021 and other CAF events, the Staff has been refining strategies to ensure the smooth running of the broadcasting process.
Barrister Ndoumbé Wane the AUB’s lawyer will have the immense responsibility to peel the files falling within the legal section of the Afcon 2019 Tv Rights. "The AUB has a clear legal framework regarding the broadcasting of matches and Televisions are committed to respect the rules established by CAF for this purpose, "she said at the end of a meeting held at the Union’s headquarters.
"Televisions which are up-to-date with these rules have no problem. But the problem would arise at the level of those who plan to hack the signal. They must know that the Legal Commission of the AUB is watching out. The commission will thus ensure strict compliance with these rules. In case of piracy, we will seize the competent jurisdictions. This year, our goal: is zero piracy. We will work 24/7 to achieve this goal, "she concluded.
This position reinforces that of the Director General of the AUB who declared during the seminar organized in May 2019 on the exploitation of marketing of sports rights that the Union has put a legal commission to work with all the countries that are going to air AFCON matches.
