Digital Terrestrial Television : AUB-TDA capacity-building workshops open in Algiers

African English-speaking engineers and technicians concerned with digital terrestrial broadcasting and satellite technologies began a ten-days training session in Algiers, the capital city of Algeria.


The training kicked-off on Monday, 18th February 2019 at the Bouchaoui Teleport Centre, in Algiers; a centre which aims at providing interconnections between different forms of telecommunications, especially one that links satellite to ground-based communications.

The opening ceremony took place under the chairmanship of the president of AUB’s Technical commission, Dr Chawki Sahnine who is also known as the Director General of TDA.


From the 18th to the 28th February 2019, participants will dwell on topics linked to the compression principles with regards to audio and video, the mastery of theoretical concepts through practical manipulation of DVB-T/T2 and DVB-S/S2 transmission and broadcasting professional equipments, as well as the mastery of the carrying and broadcasting chain of the audio-visual signal.


They would also acquaint themselves with the basic theoretical and practical knowledge of digital terrestrial television and satellite standards which involves vehicle for spectrum measurements and control, satellite transmission equipments, management and planning software, amongst others.


According to AUB’s CEO, Mr Grégoire Ndjaka, the workshops are organized within the framework of the Union’s tutelage program that enables technicians enhance their skills on new digital terrestrial broadcasting techniques.


This second phase of the AUB-TDA training program comes barely three months after the completion of the first phase which was launched in November 2018 with focus on technicians from French-speaking Africa.
